Uneven Skin Tone
Uneven skin tone can be referred to various types of skin discolouration caused by sunspots, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, as well as uneven skin texture.
In general, uneven skin tone covers several skin conditions from texture issues to blotchy skin to hyperpigmentation concerns to facial redness.
Symptoms
Uneven skin tone can appear as irregularities in texture, for instance: open pores, congestions, dry skin, damaged skin, and scarring. In addition, pigmentation such as dark and patchy in some areas and lighter in others is also a symptom of uneven skin tone. Uneven skin tone can also be presented as thread veins and rosacea.
Causes
Uneven skin tone can be caused by many factors, for example: sun damage. When your skin is repeatedly exposed to sun, it is also receiving UV rays. Your skin starts to produce an excessive amount of melanin, and therefore develops sunspots (the brown or dark spots), which leads to uneven skin tone.
Melasma is hormone related hyperpigmentation. Increased hormone stimulation causes excessive production of melanin. It is usually experienced by pregnant women or taking contraceptives. However, this could be a consequence of skincare, makeup and medications.
Another factor of uneven skin tone is environmental pollution. Particles and gas from the air pollution can penetrate the skin and form dark spots on your skin.
Last but not least, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the darkening of the skin because of scarring, which is possible to be the result of acne lesions or skin injury.
