LASER HAIR REMOVAL
What is Laser Hair Removal?
When thinking about hair, there are many ways to remove the hair on our body. Laser hair removal is an option to consider if you want to reduce your hair permanently. Many people remove hair regularly, and methods including shaving, waxing, threading, etc., can be tiring, repetitive and sometimes could be painful when you do plucking the hair. However, you have to perform this all over again after a few days, particularly for those who have excessive hair. Plus, these methods can easily cause painful ingrown hairs which make you irritated and inflamed. Laser Hair Removal can precisely target different areas and remove the hair effectively, without causing any problems.
What does laser hair removal involve?
Before the treatment, we will conduct a free consultation to access if you are a good candidate for this treatment and discuss which areas you are concerned about. A patch test is required two weeks before the formal treatment to determine if you will have any skin actions t the laser.
According to your hair conditions, we will design a treatment plan for you. Usually, 6-8 sessions of laser hair removal are required to see the best result, and each session will be spaced 6 weeks apart which as your hair regrows in cycles. You will need to shave before coming in for treatments and ensure your skin is not tanned. As the laser is attracted by the colour of the hair, you will feel more discomfort during your first session, but the machine will also have a cooling effect which can help to reduce the heat. The treatment areas will be outlined with an erasable pencil, and you will be asked to put on protective goggles during the treatment.
The laser doesn’t physically contact the skin, but remains a couple of millimetres away and moves over the treatment areas. You might smell a little bit burned, but it won’t traumatise the skin surface.
Top tips before the laser hair removal
- Shave the area before your treatment
- Wear loose clothing
- Avoid suntan at least one week before the treatment
How does laser hair removal work?
When the laser passes through the skin, the laser energy is only targeted at the individual hair follicles to prevent future hair growth. The laser can automatically indicate the hair follicles by the light which can be absorbed by the pigments of the hair. Therefore, it is important that you should avoid suntan before your laser hair treatment. Otherwise, there will be a risk of burns by the laser. Specific wavelengths of the laser can be attracted and absorbed by the hair, therefore, the hair follicles are destroyed precisely and effectively.
The hair will not be removed immediately after the laser hair removal treatment. As th hair has different growth phases, Laser Hair Removal will be destroying it before it is able to grow. Not all hair will be at the same growth stage, so you will still see some hair regrowing out after the treatment or the follicles fall off after each session. And multiple sessions are required to ensure all the hair and follicles are targeted, until the hair doesn’t return.
