Cellulite
Cellulite is the name of a variety of fat in the body that is against the connective tissue under your skin. Cellulite usually develops on your abdomen, breasts, hips, tights, stomach and buttocks. It is not a medical condition but a cosmetic concern, and causes no harm to your health.
Symptoms
Once you have cellulite developed, the surface of your skin will have a lumpy and puckered look, or even appear dimpled. It also looks like cottage cheese, oatmeal or an orange peel, the ones that have an uneven surface. There are 3 levels of cellulite. At level 1, your skin is smooth when you stand up, but mild dimpling will show up when you sit down; At level2, your skin has moderate dimples even when you are not sitting down; At level 3, your skin has severe dimples all the time, also features deep peaks and raised and depressed areas.
Causes
Cellulite is more likely to be developed on women’s bodies than men’s because of the different fat, muscle, and connective tissue distribution.
Cellulite is developed when fibrous bands connecting your skin to the underlying muscle tighten irregularly. This tightening pulls down on your skin, and the normal layer of fat under the skin pushes upward, which results in your skin having a puckering appearance.
Other possible factors for cellulite development include: hormones, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, accumulated toxins, genetics, weight gain, inactivity and pregnancy.
